By | May 26, 2012

Great Lakes State Fair(Novi) – After a three year absence, the Michigan State Fair is set to return, albeit in a new location and under a new name. The newly christened Great Lakes State Fair will be held in Novi at the Suburban Collection Showplace, located near Grand River and Beck Road. The event will run during Labor Day weekend August 31st-September 3rd.

The original State Fair that ran for over 100 years at the 8 Mile and Woodward location, was shut down in 2009 after running at a loss for years. Many fair-goers stopped attending as the neighborhood around the State Fairgrounds got progressively worse. Since then, a non-profit group called the Great Lakes Agricultural Fair has been working on getting it going again in a new location.

Sponsors of the Great Lakes State Fair include Meijer, Genisys Credit Union, Powers Distributing, and ITC Holdings amongst others. The owner of the Suburban Collection Showplace – Blair Bowman, has donated the use of his 320,000 square foot facility.

Ticket prices will be $25 for adults, $20 for kids, and will include admission, access to all exhibits, circus, entertainment, midway rides and more. For more information go their website at GreatLakesStateFair.org.
